A German exhibitor came to Turkish machine manufacturer Beta-Pak. Packing the Middle East! Beta-Pak Makine, which brought the European packaging machinery imports in the Middle East countries to a halt, received a partnership offer from its rival in this market. Exporting thermoforming and packaging machines to 50 countries, Beta-Pak also blocked imports in Turkey. Beta-Pak Machinery, the thermoforming and special packaging machine manufacturer, which has captured the market of world giant manufacturers in 80 percent of the Middle East countries, also produces special packaging machines for the biggest food industry in Turkey.

The company, which evaluated the partnership offer it received from the world’s giant German manufacturer, whose market it has seized these days, has been in the packaging industry since 1997. Beta-Pak, which produces high standards of thermoforming (heat shaped) and special packaging machines for the food and pharmaceutical industries, makes its most intensive production in glass water packaging machines.

Who is Cengiz Karagülle?
I am a member of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Machinery and Equipment Professional Committee. I am an agricultural engineer. I also have a master’s degree on cheese and yogurt. I worked as a manufacturing manager in this sector until 1984. I produced machines such as separators and pasteurizers. In 1995, there was no one producing packaging machinery in Turkey.

When did you cross paths with Beta-Pak?
Two of Beta-Pak’s three partners left. In 1997, we three partners entered Beta-Pak as new partners. Until 2000, we both got to know each other and determined our roadmap. We took action in 2001. Because my English is good, I traveled the world, attended fairs and went out to look for customers. Today; I, Turgay Gezer, Ali Elkılıç, Sadebek Taştan and Cumali Özyürek are the five partners.

How many countries do you currently export to?

Currently, we export machinery worth 15 million dollars per year to 50 countries. Since 2002, from Austria to Azerbaijan, from Abu Dhabi to the Ivory Coast, from England to Israel, from Palestine to France, from Congo to Portugal, from Russia to Sao Tome Islands. we export thermoforming machines to one side.

What is your dominance in the domestic market?
One of our partners enabled us to do R&D on electronics and electricity. We have achieved world standards in the production of thermoforming machines, which can preserve all kinds of food products you can think of, such as milk and dairy products, water, olives, biscuits, for a long time. We produce completely specific to the product, to the customer’s request. Boutique production makes us unrivaled.

How long have domestic companies been purchasing machines from Beta-Pak?
For the last ten years, domestic companies have started to work with Beta-Pak. Thus, we prevented their imports from the world’s two largest producers Hassia and Multivac. Our quality is very good, and we produce the products produced by these two companies. Hassia just makes a water machine. Multivac only makes meat grinders. As Peta-Pak, we manufacture both types of machines.

The amount of thermoforming machine that Germany sold to Iraq in 2014 is 780 thousand dollars. Beta-Pak alone sold 4.5 million euros of goods. We sold 51 water machines to Iraq last year. Beta-Pak now owns 80 percent of the Middle East market. We attend 21 fairs a year. Beta-Pak machines are operating in 18 of the 19 water plants in Dubai. We have representations in 9 countries. We work in large quantities especially to Middle East countries and Iraq. We have machines in different models that can produce 6 – 8 – 10 glasses in one go.
